Before I jump into it, I want to say this is most likely to be the first of several posts following this journey so expect more.
I recently decided to truly and consistently work on putting out YouTube content in an effort to grow my brand and also add another source of marketing and income.
It’s only the beginning but we’ve managed to do 8 videos in 20 days! Massive shoutout to KickItWithCraig who has been helping me out by making my thumbnails and now even doing editing!
I’d love to tell you that it was just a sudden spark of motivation to do what I’ve known I should all along, but I’d be lying.
Truthfully, I did it because I was down bad and needed to do something. Yet again I let myself get a bit caught up in the numbers of my stream whilst playing Rogue Company and in turn, saw myself fall off dramatically (50%-60%) when I decided to make the move to New World for the time being.
I do want to give myself a little credit though - I wasn’t AS down bad as when I went through this experience before. I knew what was coming and was better able to mentally prepare.
If you look anywhere on the internet for tips on how to grow your live stream on Twitch, you’ll most likely see folks saying you’ve GOT to make content on other platforms with better systems in place (algorithms mostly) to get your content in front of people and then in turn try to persuade those people to head over to your Twitch and check you out.
It’s good advice. Shoot, it’s advice I’ve given people for years now and yet I found myself falling in and out of using it for my own gain. For instance, I created some YouTube videos for Rogue company and then my stream was doing well and I started “just going live” as I call it. When you put in no effort outside of clicking the go live button and expecting growth.
I was getting growth though and I was letting that be the rationale behind not needing to put in the extra work (ie. YT content). If I could gain 20-40 followers in 5-6 hours of streaming Rogue Company without any extra work, why go above and beyond?
Well, to answer that version of myself…because a YouTube following separate of Twitch is a good thing & can LEAD to Twitch growth. Because building up a subscriber/viewer base on YouTube is a solid plan and another way to help keep the financial situation more stable when the money inevitably drops alongside the viewership. Because if I had done that, I could have reached even MORE people and grown an even larger audience in the same amount of time. There are so many benefits.
So that’s what I’ve done. I figured swapping from a shooting game like Rogue Company to an MMORPG like New World is going to see a plummet because 1) it’s a different game and 2) it’s in a totally different genre altogether. With that in mind, I have to in a way build from the ground up once again and what better way to do that than creating content on more discoverable platforms.
It’s not completely from the ground, however, thanks to an amazing core group of viewers that will hang out and support the stream even if they themselves aren’t super interested in New World. Shout out to those folks - truly. It means the world to me that you choose to spend your time in my stream.
This is already a very long post….so there. The journey has started.
cant wait for the journey
